I got a tractor stuck today, and took the 1948 H down and hooked onto it. The tractor couldn't pull it out, and I would say the motor must have got some pretty good jars, because as I was attempting pulling, the front end popping and banging back down in the process, the motor suddenly revved like crazy, and I hit the kill switch to keep it from blowing up. Something happened, and I am guessing it must be in the goverener?. It doesn't matter where I position the throttle, it just revvs like I never would have dreamed an H could rev. The throttle lever I belive feels different now than it did, there is less tension on the lever, but it is still all hooked up and I can't see anything wrong with it from the outside of the engine. I started the tractor a couple of times, but I couldn't do much of anything with it, I had to keep disrupting the ignition to keep it from over revving to like 5,000 RPMS. Where should I start looking for the problem?, I am only guessing that something inside the goverener housing must have fell apart? or a broken spring in there?.

Remember, the spring opens the throttle, the flyweights close it down. I dought if the linkage between the gov. & carb changed. Look at the gov. ,the pins are probubly broke on the weights.

Where do I take it apart to look at those weights? must be through the side cover on the goverenor housing?.

My SM had that trouble right after we put a new manifold on it, we broke the dogs on the carb"s throttle shaft. I"m not saying it can"t be the governor just there"s a remote chance it"s not.

I think the first thing I would check would be the little tang that goes from the Gov tube into the little V in the Carb. Some times just loosing the two screws and wiggleing that tube a little will take care of it. I believe that usally when the AGove spring breaks they go to an idle not rev but I could be wrong I would check the carb first. J.
