Finally getting paint on M (pics)

My Dad is finally to the point where he is starting to get some red on his 1944 M. He got the high-dollar paint ($400 and some odd dollars a gallon). The photos are a little grainy and don"t do the paint job justice. It really does look nice, though. Photos at web link below. Will update again soon.

Darnit. I didn't check my e-mail in time, or I would have tried to set up a time to talk tractors. I was down at Purdue both Friday (for a forestry dept. meeting) and Saturday (for the football game). I will be down for Homecoming again this Saturday. You can come by and tailgate with the Knuckleheads in Lot D. Just shoot me an e-mail.

I noticed on your web page that you listed the block as not orignial because its number didn't match. Just to let you know, just because the engine serial number doesn't match the tractor serial number doesn't mean that it is not original. According to International's parts manual, "no attempt was made at the factory to match engine serial numbers to chassis serial numbers." Our 1940 M happens to have it match because of its early serial number (12272). Our W6 ended up haveing the engine number exactly 8000 higher (what are the odds of that one?) than the chassis serial number even though it is the original block. Nice looking M by the way. Should be a real looker when you are done with it.

Thanks for the info. Someone else told me that, but I wasn't sure, because so many of the blocks match up with the chassis. At any rate, your reference to the parts manual puts that controversy to rest.

We probably crossed paths down there. I was there Friday and Saturday. I pry won't be able to make Valpo this year, as I will be at Purdue for Homecoming game. Thanks for asking though! Maybe we can meet for some of the shows in your area next year, and if you don't mind the drive, you are more than welcome to come to my place in southern Michigan and travel with me to Oakley (MI) and / or Portland (IN).

Matt--Am an Ag Ed Grad with the Class of 66 and MS 74 from Purdue. Of all things, John T. Nordhoff and I grew up about 30 miles from each other, were at Purdue at the same time--small world huh? Lived at Cary while I was there and loved the trek to the Vet Medicine campus with 22 inches of snow for a 0630 Saturday class! Oh what fun--where are you there on campus? Had to ask!! I was in Forestry and Natural Resource. But due to some issues I changed my major over a year ago to OLS (Organization, Leadership, and Supervision). I plan on going into Park and Recreation Management when I graduate in May. I live off campus in Lafayette. My brother graduated in '97 in Vet Medicine.

Tony--Really looking good! Great website too! When (if??) I finally get to the second retirement, want to do the same with our Super M. Older restoration but need to fix a few Class III leaks (Countershaft, Char-Lynn power steering, and outer wheel seals) but all good projects that can wait--but do want to get all that done and repainted! BDM sure does have a good grip on his! Have 2 cubs and a C to do after that so the project list isn't lacking! Thanks again for sharing--Steve
