I've been giving thought to getting a new Mahindra, mostly because they're cheeper than a new Case/IH, and Mahindra was hooked up with IH once upon a time (in a land far,far away) Are they any good these days? I also found out they made Jeeps during WWII for Willis. What do you think?

I'd strongly suggest you spend some time on one before you push the button to buy.

This is how I would view the situation. Do you truely have a dealer support system for the machine you are buying? Although you may get a good price in the beginning, you may pay for it in the long run if the product is not supported well.

Everyone I've spoken with who owns one seems very happy. I'm looking at their 6500, so I've been talking with quite a few people who have owned them for several years. One attraction is they are a bit heavier. Friends with some of the newer green machines have a hard time keeping them on the ground when moving round bale silage and tearing out bedded packs, even with loaded tires and rear wheel weights. I'm also after the compact, 4-wd, modern safety features (for my wife & kids), and ability to stack round bales (funny how we feel like we have to apologize for looking at a tractor under 30 years age!).

The parts may or may not (mahindra couldn't give me an answer)interchangeable but the mahindra B-275 is an India copy of the McCormick International that was British made in the 50's and 60's. I bought a replacement (made in India) head for my 1961 British B-275 and the workmanship was very poor. I don't know if was the same heads mahindra used on their tractors however. I would look them over very closely but they are supposed to be one of the biggest tractor manufacturers in the world.

I love my old play things,( I only have 5, soon to be 8) but I like being able to jump on a tractor and not have to stop a lot to reset, reline, replace,repair,re-cuss, re-kick, etc, etc, etc

My father-in-law bought a new Mahindra 3510 with the 112 loader last weekend, haven't got to use it alot yet,but its a pretty impressive little machine so far..easy on fuel too it seems..appears to be well built..I would definitely give one a hard look if I was buying new..

I am not sure that Mahindra has any actual ties to IH or Case-IH. I think the closest they come to having any ties is the fact they are being built in a facility that was once owned by International Harvester. I could be wrong on part of that, but it is basically irrelevant anyhow. I have no actual experience with Mahindra, except for looking them over real good. I am impressed with the way they are built. Looks like a lot of heavy iron went into them. I've never heard any derogatory comments. Keep in mind that NO tractor is any better than the dealer you bought it from, make sure he has a good reputation and intends to be in business for at least as long as you need him.

I took have considered a Mahindra utility, and might pull the trigger on one at some point.
But then I compare the cost to what I get when I buy a used IH 300 utility or a MF 35, etc and the luster goes away quick.
They do seem to be well made, and I agree with Rusty that you want to be real sure that the dealer is in it for the long haul.
Mahindra does have close ties to IH. In fact at least one model (2wd) is basically an IH utility from the seventies. Don't know the specifics but from what I understand that tractor has been in continuous production since they bought the assembly line (includies dies, etc) from IH. If you feel like you have to buy new, I definately would at the very least give strong consideration to a Mahindra.
