Does anyone have a book that identifies serial numbers on combines? This combine's serial number is: 1680221U010972. Does anyone know the year it was made?

mechanical is not all bad if setup and maintained properly though the 820 flex head isn't much of a head. Would be nice to couple that with a 220 Deere or MF head which has been done.

Looks like it is a 1980 model by my books.

In 1981 they went to the switch on the hydrostat lever to run the header height.

Does yours have the lever or the switch to control the header?

It has the lever, so must be a 1980. Thanks. A friend of mine is trying to sell this combine but everyone is wanting the electric header control.

Our 1460 has the electric over hydraulic - what a PITA! Nothing but electrical troubles the first year. I finally re-wired the switches my own way to make it work.

Give me an old fashioned hydraulic lever any day!

Yeah isn't that the way it always goes.

Everybody wants the one you don't have.

I had an 81 1440 and it is easier to run the header height and speed with every thing on one lever.

Yeah, and if you do sell it, everyone tells you that they would have paid you more for it after it"s gone.
