how to install pilot shaft and clutch release bear

I now neeed to replace the clutch and have all the parts. I think I need help figuring out how to install the pilot release bearing (I have it in and and the orientation doesn't seem to matter). I have read that it goes in the flywheel, I suppose in the center, and needs a smidge of grease. I am not sure it came out when all else fell out two days ago. I don't remember seeing anything the size of what I just got in the mail.

With regard the the clutch release bearing, I think I generally know where it goes on the shaft because the remnance of it are still there. But it looks like a pressed in sort of bearing which must turn one way or the other. One side is flat and has a lip on the outside diameter. The other side has the bear rings exposed with the grease. Which way does this face oon the shaft? It may be obvious when I get out there, but maybe not.
