The back rim on my Super A has about 6-8 inches of rust in one spot on the outside of the rim near the valve stem. I want to repair it. I used a pencil grinder and a wire wheel and got the rust off. My problem is the rust had pitted the the rim in a couple of places almost all the way thru. What can I get to put in the rough spots that I can sand down and prime and paint, and where can I get it. Thanks Clint

After the cleaning and wire brushing down to the clean metal coat the area with Ospho (found at hardwares and aome commercial paint stores) to stop any future rusting. If structurally sound there are several epoxy compounds to rebuild the metal. If you are near a boat store get some Marine-Tex, a two part hard setting compounts that sands and grinds well and can be use to repair motor heads, blocks, and even gas tanks. Also JB Weld is good

Pull the tire off and take it slow but you can grind and weld it back up. Then grind it back down. Or you can spend $100 or so and replace it. I have repaired more then one rim and have even put in fish plates when doing so and unless you removed the tire you would never know it was done

Its a welders term for a plate that is welded over a crack or other type of joint. On a lot of things if you say have a crack in a loader frame and all you do is weld that crack it will not hold well. But if you then put a fish plate over the weld then that crack will never open up again

I would suggest that if the rim is that rusted either grind and baze it or replace the rim. It is not worth the hassle of the old rusted rim failing on you.
