Everyone, I am rebuilding the water pump on my H. When I took it apart, someone in the past replaced the greased bearings with sealed bearings which proves you never know what you will find! My question is, does anyone know what the number for the thrust washer on the Impeller is? My H parts book gives no number for this, only the complete Impeller Assembly. Also, is there any seal on the side of the water pump sleeve which sits back in the housing in front of the Impeller?

If the o-ring you speak of is inside the sleeve, that may be the old packing.Someone may have put an o-ring in its place,or if it is like mine was,it was packed so tight and was so hard that it resembled an o-ring

In the parts book, item 20 is the packing,if you order that part#,you'll get one piece, with the parts book saying ''as required''.I only put one in,it leaked, and trying to put more packing in while the pump is in the tractor is a chore and a half.

I hope this may have helped some.

There is a felt dust washer that goes between the pump body and the rear half of the adjustable pulley half. Then there is an oil seal on either side ofthe fan hub where the bearings are.Originally, those bearings were greaseable, the oil seals kept the grease in,then the felt washer was supposed to keep the dirt out.I see no o-ring,unless someone put an o-ring in place of the felt dust seal.

My parts manual is open on my lap as I write this.

What I am describing sits inside of the housing itself between the impeller and the end of the sleeve. My manual says there is a thrust washer on the impeller shaft and I do not have a number for this.

So, is the seal on the end of the sleeve the bearings run on, or is it slid on the impeller shaft? I have something that looks like an O ring on the end of my sleeve, but it is hard as a rock and doesn't seem to come off.

I meant to say washer, not seal.

Yes,I know the washer you mean exactly, and I see that there is none showing in the manual.According to my manual, the thrust washer isn't sold seperately,it comes as part of the impeller. An impeller is a small fortune.I take it yours is gone, its about the thickness of a quarter, and almost the same size.

There is no seal between the impeller and the water pump, the washer serves as the thrust washer. The water pump is sealed by packing that you buy that goes between the shaft and the sleeve that the pulley bearings run on.I bought the packing for mine directly from the dealer, but made the mistake of not putting enough in(the parts book says ''as required'')The packing looks like pieces of nylon rope, and they weren't very expensive. Then there is a pack nut that you tighten against the packing. In service,if it leaks, tighten it some more, when it won't stop, time for new packing.

My pulleys had sealed bearings in it as well.I had to replace my impeller because one of the vanes was missing.A new one of those is available as well, but it cost half of what I paid for the whole tractor.

I hope this was helpful.Good luck.

Sorry I can't help with your question. I'm just hoping that you are taking lots of pictures so I can follow in your footsteps in a couple months. :-)

Mike, did you ever get your H to run properly? Did you get it home?
