Hey guys can you give this the once over? Fella purchased a 300 and cant get it to move with out dieing. I suspect the TA is in small peices.
What say you?
This is a copy of emails so top is the last. Bottom is the 1st.

Thanks.

"Well.
Lets see, The motor runs, Clutch works, Shifts, Brakes not stuck.
I suspect the TA might be the problem and not just bad ramp and rollers ether. The planitary may have imploded.
pop back onto my website and get into the Farmall 400 section. I documented the replacement of a TA there.

I will also copy this over to the guys at Yesterday Tractor discussion fourm. Some real good IH guys there and they know alot more than me.

Need a little more info.

Does tractor run ok out of gear?

Can you rev it up and down?

PTO work? Can you ingage it and disingage?

Can you run it through all the gears?

Can you roll the tractor when out of gear?

Brakes stuck or locked up?

If the tractor runs good in neutral and you can shift through the gears. I suspect brakes are locked up.

If the tractor wont shift and wont roll. Shifter may have slipped out of the rail and stuck between gears. If this is the case the tractor will only run with the clutch pushed in and will die when you ingage. Common problem, shifter wears and slipps out of rail. This puts the tractor in 2 gears at same time. She wont move at all. Easy fix, pull the shifter and use a long screw driver to move the shifting rails into neutral. Replace the shifter and it will work until it slips out again. Need to weld and grind some metal onto the end of the shifter to compensate for wear.

I suppose there could also be a issue with the TA. Not sure what the symtom would be. But maybe the TA clutch is stuck and you put it into TA drive. Cant run in direct drive and TA drive at the same time. TA handle forward is direct drive and should run even if clutch stuck. TA is long handle on left side. PTO is long handle on right rear.

Try those.

Subject: FARMALL 300

I WAS READING YOUR WEBSITE ON FARMALLS AND SEE YOU HAD DONE SOME WORK TO YOUR H. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A FARMALL 300 AT AN AUCTION. I FIRED HER UP AND BEGAN TO TAKE OFF AND I AM NOT FOR SURE WHAT IT IS BUT SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE RUNNING THAT IS DRAGGING DOWN THE TRACTOR AND EVENTUALLY AFTER A FEW FEET IT JUST DIES. IT SEEMS AS IF SOMETHING IS RUNNING DOWN BY THE CLUTCH HOUSING AREA. YOU WOULDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS COULD BE OR HOW TO FIX IT WOULD YOU?

IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA PLEASE EMAIL ME AT THANKS.

sometimes the shifter is worn so bad it will move freely in neutral.. i would see if the rails in the trans line up before opening it up....

I never saw if he answered your question if it rolls freely in nuetral? But yeah, if it does that kinda narrows it to the TA.
