Super M control valve

Can someone explain to me how the "christmas tree" (4-way) valve on a Super M should be plumbed for 2-way cylinders?

The way I have it plumbed now only lets me raise the wheels on my disc,.... I have no "power-down" unless I change the hoses around and then it won't lift the wheels.

Thanks,
RoninKS

Fellas, I posted in better detail what I'm working with, but my other post (and D Slater's) doesn't show up on the list of replies under this thread.

I think I must have a "stage II" Super M, but the battery is under the gas tank instead of the seat.

Presuming yours is a “stage 1” Super M (belly pump hydraulics) Nat 2’s advice below is right on! However if your SM is a “stage 2” (equipped with live hydraulics) then change #1, 2 and 4 as follows:

1 – Live pump outlet to christmas tree valve inlet.

2 – Bottom of christmas tree valve return to hydraulic reservoir.

4 – Liftall control lever (sticking out of right side of hydraulic reservoir) pulled back and latched.

From your other post, did you hook the # 3 line into opening in rear of valve near where # 2 line is going in? That should give you the 2 lines to cylinder. Does the lever on valve move front and rearward and center itself in middle? If valve is good and you have pressure one way it should have both ways if plumbed right. Just to make clear the two 1/2 inch pipe thread ports on valve that face rear of tractor is for the lines to a 2 way cylinder.

I guess I should explain what I have exactly on the "christmas tree" in order to make things more clear.

1st. This Super M does not have a belly pump, or a lever that can be latched back.

2nd. Both of the "ports" comeing out the rear of the "christmas tree" have T's.

3rd. Dave, the "T" #2 hose is screwed into has 2 plugs in it, this port is the one that has pressure.

4th. The "T" that #3 hose is screwed into, also has a hose that runs to the rear/left port on the other side of the tractor (I think as a "return" and probably the reason for no pressure to the cylinder on that hose).

5th. The front/left port on the tractor has a riser pipe with a vented cap on it (I figure this is where fluid is added to the belly pump reservoir).

I see no way to check the level of fluid in the reservoir the way things are set up now.

Also, if I remove the hose running to the left/rear port of the belly reservoir, how will any fluid return to the reservoir, as that is the only return line (that I can see) the way things are hooked up now (or, does the fluid even have to return to the reservoir in order for the cylinder to work)?

Boy I feel stupid,
RoninKS

The hose from tee to rear port on left is letting the pressure go in circle. You need to plug it. The fluid returns out the bottom of valve and back in top off reservior under the fill cap. Originaly there was a dipstick under cap to check oil level. It had joints to bend for that valve set up.

Thanks for confirming the the thoughts I had in the back of my mind.
I didn't want to change things around too much and maybe damage the live-pump.

BTW, that hose going from the "T" to the rear/port on the left side looks like a factory hose (it's the only red hose on the tractor), so I thought I'd proceed with caution.

How much fluid do you think this system will hold?
Without a way of checking the fluid level, I thought about draining the reservoir and going back with new fluid of the proper amount.

Will it hurt anything if it's a little "over full"?

Thanks for all the info, this is a great website,
RoninKS

If I remember correct it holds 6 quarts. If the original pump has ben removed there will be little more room for oil inside. If the cap is vented and you get to full or air in system it will come out vent.

D Slater, thank you for your help. All I have to do now is install a relief-valve and I'll be ready for my Saginaw 3-point hitch when it gets here. I sent Saginaw a money order for it last saturday so it should be here sometime next week.

Thanks agin bud, RoninKS

1. Pressure out from belly pump to left side of valve.
2. Bottom of valve connected to fill tube on belly pump.
3. Two rear-facing ports run hoses to rear of tractor. End in hydraulic couplings, preferably quick-release so you don't rip the valve off the tractor, along with your leg, when the disc comes unhitched in the field.
4. Lock the belly pump lever back.
5. Lift and lower the disc by moving the christmas tree lever back and forth. If the lever seems "reversed" just swap the hoses.
