I have a 1951 Cub I am rebuiding. It is now in about 800 pieces and I am working on redoing the engine and have 3 questions. I'm reading "How to rebuild and Restore Farm Tractor Engines"
1. Should I get the crank reground - My dad and I mic'ed it and where piston 3 connects, is a slight grove - about .0025" higher then the rest of the crank on that section. The crank for piston one (P1) is 1.4990, P2=1.4980, P3=1.4950 ridge 1.4975, p4=1.4980. Journal 1= 1.623, J2=1.623, J3=1.623. Overall looks pretty good.
2. Should I get the Cylinders rebored? Measurements are (Avg of 4 measurements each: top below ridge, middle, bottom: C1-Top = 2.6353,C1-Mid = 2.6308,C1-Bot = 2.6283, C1-Avg = 2.6314 : C2-Top = 2.6405,C2-Mid = 2.6303, C2-Bot = 2.6278, C2-Avg = 2.6314 : C3-Top = 2.6420, C3-Mid = 2.6363, C3-Bot = 2.6280, C3-Avg = 2.6318 : C4-Top = 2.6418, C4-Mid = 2.6363, C4-Bot = 2.6285, C4-Avg = 2.6319
3. Are the Cylinders surpose to be tapered? The bore is larger at the top then at the bottom. Is this just normal wear? Overall the Bores look great, very little ridge on each, no scoring, look like just need honed, but depends on answer to number 2.
Sorry this is a bit long, and thanks in advance for the assistance - Kurt

First off get the crank turned and no there is not suppose to be a tapper in the bore and as for what is the stock bore i do not know with out going out to the truck and getting the book to see where you are at now but yes get it bored and while it is at the machine shop do the valves . Then when it comes home get the detergent out and scrub your littel heart out on the oil gallies and the bore till ya start to see it turning brown then it is clean rince and blow dry coat with oil and put her together .
