Hey guys I just bought an old 22-36 from a guy up north, he says he doesn"t know much about it, not even the year. The serial number is 1G 145308 M ...besides being stuck, the only other thing is that it needs a hood and a magneto, but I have no idea what magneto is supposed to be on there either...Any info on this would be greatly appreciated...Thanx

Josh

josh, i don't have my serial number list handy, but someone will. looks like it is 1930 or newer.it had an e4a mag on the earlier ones and then the f4 came late. you can run either one, the f4 being probably easier to come by with an automatic impulse. ih made these from 1929-1934. i would have to check the parts book to see what mag for sure. does it have the exhaust coming out the side or top? e-mail me if you want with questions. pictures, etc. always like to check out the old ones. good luck, russ

Russ,

The exhaust stack comes out the top pretty much right above the carburetor...sounds good, working on getting a camera to take some pictures and get them posted...one other question, the two shift levers: what does each one do, never had this old of a tractor so everyone is curious...Thanx again..

Josh

JOSH, YOU CAN SEE THE ONE TO THE LEFT IS THE BRAKE. THE ONE NEXT TO THE GAS TANK IS THE BELT PULLEY AND PTO LEVER. OTHER IS GEAR SHIFT. I MIGHT SUGGEST GETTING AN ORIGINAL OR REPRINT OWNER'S MANUAL. THIS IS INVALUABLE AS IT GIVES YOU THIS INFO PLUS VALVE ADJUSTMENT, TIMING, ETC.WE HAVE HAD SOME 6OR 8 OF THESE TRACTORS AND I SURE LIKE 'EM. KIND OF HEAVY, BUT. the original manifold came out the side, but you could get ih and heisler manifolds that came out the top later, some with zenith carb and some with the brass ensighn carb. i have noticed the zenith carb uses less gas than the brass one and you can jet and adjust it good. a friend of mine says the 22-36 numbers stood for 22 gallons of gas in the morning and 36 gallons in the afternoon. ha ha.russ
