We have a 1066 that was always had hydraulic problems. At times, the steering, brakes, and clutch would all go out. Recently, the steering has gone out completely. The tractor is strictly a field tractor, and is only found in front of a chisel plow, disk or field cultivator, so we never felt it imperative to really look into fixing an occasional malfunction. We are just plain scared to take it down the road...

I know this is a reoccuring subject, but could someone explain the hydraulic system in the 66 series tractors, where the pumps and valves are physically located on the tractor, and a likely solution to the steering not working?

Thank you very much.

Your problem is in what we call the MCV and that is located in the left side of the speed transmission ahead of the left step . Now since you are not up on the repairs of said system you could first get a book on the 1066 and study what the MCV does and how it does this or take it to a person that REALY KNOWS . There are alot of COULD BE's as to the cause for this failuar one is that the MCV pump is taking a lunch break do to old age there could be a score valve , broken or weak springs , blowen gskt, blowen O/Ring ,stuck valves pluged filter a bad O/Ring between the speed transmission and the range transmission low fluid lever a leaking suction tube . So be prepared for the worse case . And with out doing some tests myself i can not say for sure as to just what the problem is .So best course of action is take it to a GOOD mechanic that knows these tractors as you will be money and time ahead .
