Shame on NAPA auto parts! Went in to pick up a pail (5 gal) of straight 30 oil yesterday and they were charging $63.00 for it!!!

Three other stores in town want less than $45.00

If that's not price gouging, I don't know what is.

Your choice on buying oil. What kind of 30wt? Diesel spec? IHC low ash? Extreme service racing oil for air cooled engines? Old non-detergent spec? Late non-detergent garden tractor without oil filter? Semi-synthetic additive for long life? Many different choices and prices for whatever you want to use it for. RN.

Hello,

There is no thing as "price gouging" in the private sector. The nature of the two completely contradict each other and you proved it to yourself. Taxation however is another matter. Are there alternative "representatives" we can live under?

Why would anyone buy 30 weight oil anyways? Perhaps that's why it's so expensive, no one that's sane uses it anymore! Your "price gouging" yourself.

Mark

Nothing at all wrong with 30W detergent. In a warm climate you can run it year round -- ideal for old tractors. No advantage at all to multi-grade as long as the temperature is at least in the 40's. possibly lower. I run 15W-40 only because I don't want to change it in the winter.

I guess I must not be sane then. SAE30 is all I use in my tractors. That is what was recommended in them by IH. I ran 10w30 in my BN one time and when it warmed up the oil pressure gauge went down to almost nothing. It doesn't do that with 30 in it. I don't run my big tractors in the winter, but I do the garden tractors. I run SAE 30 in the garden tractors even in the winter.

FWIW I work at a NAPA store and all our oil is acctually cheaper by the qt than it is by the 5 gallon bucket. At our store right now it is $1.79 a qt. 20 qts in a 5 gallon bucket = $35.80. That is for the NAPA brand made by Valvoline. Valvoline brand is more. I have also seen 3 or 4 price increases on all oil products this year so far.

Makes sense when you consider the refined oil is made from $70/
barrel crude oil. Like it or not, the days of $10/barrel crude oil are gone. We may all be recycling our oil like the gent in Ohio that posted here a couple of weeks ago.

Must be good oil. . . For that price, your engine should last forever. Went to the dealer the other week and picked up some Hytran. That stuff isn't cheap anymore either.

There is no such thing as price gouging when you have a choice as to where you make your purchase. If I saw a $63 price tag on 5 gals. of oil I would move on. You weren't charged $63, you made a decision to pay it.

nspec: I don't know about shame on NAPA. My take on things like this, is shame on the folks who buy overpriced products. One of the biggest problems society faces today is those folks going around proud of the fact they are able to pay more for an item than the next guy.

It is a shame that stature in our society is based on how much money you spend, not on what kind of person you are.

You must live in a different society than I do. We laugh at the drugstore cowboys that try to impress us with money, the "all hat and no horse" guys.

They are, however, cool in their own minds.

They show up in a new pickup that has never been scratched, let on that they own a million dollar horse, but they don't know what kind of hay they want, and don't know what they are looking at, they just want the best.

Stature around here is keeping your word and being consistent. Even if you are a butt if you are consistent that is OK.

no way. Napa was Valvoline, others were Shell, Mobil, and Texaco products.

The dollar stores sell 30 detergent and nondetergent oil for around $1.00 a quart.
