The only way that JD A could pull that 706 backwards is when the 706 is in reverse assisting the little popper! The green monster needs to experience real power, the power of red!

You forgot to add that your A could stop the earth and pull it backword and still pull the 706 at the same time, what you have one of those good 8630 4x4 engines in the "A"

How could it have a good 8630 motor in an A, because John Deere didn't build a good 619 untill the 8650's and thats iffy.

I am glad to see you like your 706... I personally think there are a smart looking tractor. Why, just out of curiosity did you marry up a gas engine when I presume it had been a diesel? How do you find the fuel economy? Have you put much work into the engine? Narrow or wide front? Dad and I are thinking seriously about purchasing a gas 706 for light work around the farm despite the fact she will drink the petrol down ~ there does not seem to be all that many 706 diesels up for sale around here, we've been looking for quite some time. Our IH 766 diesel is great for the heavy work (wouldn't trade her for the world) so the gas wouldn't get a lot of labour intensive work. For small piddly odds and sods we can run for the Farmall H or C (but they are restored). ...Incidentily, too bad you didn't live closer to Canada... I could sell you my C. She's a great little tractor!
I am glad to see you are keen on getting a good Farmall to start your collection... Take your time the right one will come along. You know, you already have a great tractor... and a Farmall (the 706) that you could clean up and make all "tiddly". You know the tractor's history/its characteristics and that goes a looong way! Remember, IH DID make tractors after the Farmall letter and hundred series!

Aaron: Take a look at Jeff's M for sale - picture he sent me, while not the best photo, showed what appeared to be a machine in good condition. In fact if I was not being told by signifcant other no more tractors right now, I would be interested in investigating it further. From what he has told me, new paint, new tires, great mechanical.
