Glen, If you were converted from the 4 position LHBD Light Switch and a 2 wire Cutout Relay charging system to a full fledged Voltage Regulator system (3 or 4 wire) and still wanna use the Light Switch for Lights only (it used to run lights plus regulate gennys Low n High charge via a wire from it to gennys Field post), its BAT input terminal would need to receive hot battery voltage to power the lights and you WOULD NOT wire to the terminal that was previously wired down to the Gennys Field post. Nowwwww you can get that hot battery voltage for powering the lights and ignition switches EITHER from A) The L termninal on the VR if you have a 4 pole (BAT ARM FLD LOAD) VR or B) The load (NOT to battery/starter) side of the ammeter being the same ammeter terminal that wires down to the BAT terminal on the VR if you only have a 3 pole (BAT ARM FLD) or you could even feed hot battery voltage to the lights n ignition from the VR's BAT terminal. Then on the VR its BAT terminal wires to the load side of the ammeter..... ..its FLD wires to gennys Field post..... ....its ARM/GEN terminal wires to gennys ARM post..... ....if it has the 4th LOAD L terminal it could be used to feed hot battery voltage to the lights switch (Its BAT input terminal) and the ignition switches input or else feed both those from the load side of the ammeter as mentioned above. NOTE if you had a 3 brush genny and converted from a cutout relay to a full fledged VR, I would set the 3rd brush (if adjustable) to the max charge position. Once shes all wired I would Polarize the genny before firing her up. Let us know John T
