Put the shifter in neutral and if the tractor still moves the shifter has jumped out of the rail and you are getting it in two gears. Not hard to fix, just pull out the lever and use a big screwdriver to line up the rails. Then weld and grind the worn end of the shifter. Should look like this when you are done. third party image

Pulled the lever, lined up the rails and in about 5 minutes had it running again. I got cocky and tried running through the gears before fixing the lever. Got it stuck worse than the first time (and outside too with cold and rain on the way!) All thee rails were way off this time and it took about 45 minutes to get it right. Back in the barn til the lever is fixed. Question: how close are the tolerances on the weld/grind repair? Any measurements available. Thanks again..

If you build it up too much it will bind. Just fit by trial and error. Anything is better than it is.
