Parts manual look-up for 450 or 560 tractor

I bought a used PTO from either a 450 or 560. Clutch type. Plan to install on my TD340 crawler, which does take the same unit. One question for anyone who could look up something in the parts manual for me from either or both units (which may differ slightly):
What's the part number of the "clutch retainer snap ring"? I ordered 376821R1 from Case but got something way too thick for my groove.
If there's any chance you could fax or Email me the page with the parts numbers, that would also help a lot with any future issues. The PTO manual does not have parts numbers. I can be contacted by Email. Thanks.

Shaft & couplings are the same for the 400 as the 560 according to my parts book. Probably same part numbers for all this series of tractor. The snap ring groove widening route sounds the cheapest & easiest way to go.

Your part number is item 47 in my 560 book page 166.

It appears your problem is there are two item 47s. It depends on which shaft you have. The other "RING, clutch retainer snap" is 373 588 R1. It goes with "SHAFT" 373 546 R1.

SHAFT # 373 546 R2 uses RING # 376 821 R1

It looks to me like one shaft and ring were made obsolete. I think you have to buy the shaft that goes with the ring you bought. Sorry about that.

Thanks so much. That explains the whole thing; they must have found that they needed a stronger ring, but had to change the shaft to make room for a wider groove. Now, unless you do send me a picture of that parts page, which would be very useful, could you tell me the part number of the shaft with the two couplings on the ends that connects the PTO unit to the engine. The couplings must be 360168R1, but I'm hoping the 340 has a shorter shaft than the 450 or 560. (Which machine are your numbers from, by the way? Thanks so much.

I don't have a 340 book but I do have a 504 book which probably uses the same shaft. The 560 shaft with two couplings is an assembly of three parts (360 167 R11). The shaft is not listed separately.

Give me a minute and I will check the 504 book.

I went to my 460 book first. The couplings you mentioned have the same part number as the 560. The 460 book does not list the clutch type PTO, only the planetary. The three piece shaft assy is 360 167 R11.

The 504 book list the same couplings as the 560 and 460. It only lists the clutch type PTO. The shaft assembly is 307 224 R11 until tractor # 14334. After that it is 395 132 R11.

I have a feeling you will need to get a measurement on what you think the lenght of the shaft will be. All the splined ends will be the same. A salvage yard should be able to send you the right shaft if you specify the length.

You've been so very helpful. Thanks a lot for all your trouble. I'm going to use the old snap ring or a replacement the same size. Now I know what shaft I'm looking for too, which was a big concern since I didn't want to use the 2.5 inch adapter/spacer that came with the unit I bought. When mounted with the shorter shaft on the TD340 crawler, it's not needed.

I think your best course of action is to widen the annular shaft ring position to accomdate your new ring. You will have to determine which side to cut. It will have to be done in a lathe.

Do you think that the shaft is machinable, or would it have been hardened at the end of manufacture?
By the way, thanks to all your look-ups, I did get the extension shaft I needed from Wengers.
