Welp, I won't quit reminding everyone of the importance of getting your blood pressure checked and if you can't tell me what it is right now then you are playing Russian Roulette with your life. Strokes and Death are the results of high blood pressure. I am one of the fortunate Stroke survivors, back to full steam with no serious damage(foot feels hot, then cold, then numb,then hot etc) but when I get active I don't notice it, that's the only Stroke symptom I have...so...get your blood pressure checked, at the drugstore, doctor's office, hospital, walk in clinic..it only takes a moment to do...I want you all safe and healthy, we don't want to lose any YTers especially Farmallers..... ..Mike in Exeter Ontario

I have big time blood pressure problems. Last trip to the Dr it was 204/138(untreated). Three years ago at the hospital it was 206/140 when I went to ER for an unrelated problem. Was on medication for a year after that then Dr cut me off because I wouldn't take the time to come in for an office visit. High blood pressure runs in my dads family which I think is the main problem. I have seen uncle's with BP above 260/200! I'm back on medication again and check every day. Was 130/82 last night. I feel OK but I know that high of BP is not good for me. Dave.

Anyone over the age of 55 should be taking 1 aspirin a day. So many forget that the blood gets thicker the older we get.

I was there one day when a general contractor I was working with had massive heart failure. The look in his eyes told me he was in ALOT of pain before he died and there wasn't a thing I could do for him. They found he had been taking his M-I-L's expired heart medication (nitro) until he could get to the doctor when work slowed down that winter. He never made it to the Doc's.

We were working on a medical building with several doctors in the offices, 1 minute from a fire house with EMT's, and another minute from the hospital. Took maybe 10 minutes to pre-treat Him to the point he entered ER, but it was too late. He was dead before the pre-treatment but the EMT's had jump started him.

I am another stroke survivor. I did not recognize the signs and went the third day before seeking medical attention. I still had no idea what was going on until the ER doc told me I had had a stroke and asked me how long these symptoms had been going on. I had the stroke about 2 PM on a Friday last January and finally went to the ER Monday after giving up that I could not enter a password or even read an email (I am a system admin in IT for a fairly large company). I could not repeat a 4 word sentence when asked, but had little if any physical effects. Strange feeling, and I am still recovering and see improvement as I go along. I went home in 3 days, and back to work in 3 weeks (no I was not anywhere near 100%). I might be wrong, but I would bet there are not 1 out of 10 who would recognize the symptoms. I did a very good job of 'covering' it up too by not saying much to anyone. I knew there was something seriously wrong with me, but had no idea what. So much so that when I left work Monday to finally seek help I prepared to not be back. I called my wife in the truck headed home to tell her to call the doctor and make me an appt. As soon as she told him the symptoms he told her to get me to the ER. Another symptom I had which is rarely mentioned is exhaustion. I slept about twice as much as I normally do - falling asleep in the chair, going to bed early and could not do very little physical work. I have 110 acres and was trying to build fence the next after the stroke. I just hope this helps others see the possible effects and recognize them. I am 46 years old and had not been in the hospital a day in my life prior to this.

Mine is 124/84, steady for the past ten years at that level. Meds have worked for me the past 30 years.

Last January my son nearly died and spent two weeks in the hospital - over a week of that in the PICU. This happened after he had two months of ever increasing health problems. Our family doctor that checked in on our son In addition to his specialist) commented two days in row how I didn't look that good. I took a break and went down stairs to get checked out - on that particular day I was 170/120. They checked it two days later and it was about the same. I told the doctor I'd take care of it but we had more important things to deal with at the moment.

I kept checking it at the local grocery store and found that it was steadily decreasing while my son's health also improved. In March I finally went back to see the doctor and it was 150/100 - fair but not that good. I have kept tabs on it and it has continued to get a little better last month it was down to 140/90 - slightly elivated but good enough for a desk bound pencil pusher. I'm 38.

132/76, pulse 66, checked by a pro last night at a dental clinic. Pretty normal for me (we have a tester at home), but higher than it used to be. I'm a believer! My father died of a massive stroke at age 63, 20 years ago this year. I eat the right stuff 98 percent of the time, keep my weight reasonable and get lots of "farmersize." Watch me keel over from a stroke in five minutes! Still have more job stress than I need, but so far it is not affecting the blood pressure and I am trying to minimize it.

Blood pressure is up, big time.

Local NRD is now limiting the amount of ground water we can pump.

Tenant informs me that the barn is trying to fall down, the house needs a new picture window and we've gotta spend a bunch of money on the gravity flow irrigation system.

Only straw I can find is short stemmed stuff that which has been run thru an axial-flow combine.

Weaning calves on Saturday and weatherman is calling for rain/snow.

Yep, I'm taking all the pills I can find today. :>(

Michael, at 9:13 PM 121/65, pulse 93. I have a LifeSource one step auto-inflate blood pressure monitor. I use it several times a day, but I don't have high blood pressure,and never have. BUT I am at the age one needs to becareful.

I even take Shawns blood pressure daily...

Working on old tractors is relaxing for me, and I'm sure it lowers my blood pressure. If I start to get stressed with an old tractor - it's time to take a break from it for a day or two. :o)

Just checked it, 124/70. 47 years old and been on medication for about 10 years, usually check it every other morning, you made me check it at night and I can live with those numbers. ONLY TIME I HAVE PROBLEMS IS WHEN I LAY OFF THE MEDICATION!!! You folks on BP pills, keep takin' em like the doc says. And check your pressure yourself from time-to-time.

Don't ask what mine is at this time as it is probably off the chart and the heart rate has not come down off warp factor 5 and i have been setting for 15 min. Defently got a work out today up and down the stairs up and down off the scaffolding fit this cut that make this make that . They can take this old house and shove it up Bob, Norms and who ever else's arrs . I need a good shrink as i have to be out of what ever mind that i have left.

I agree with what your saying.

15months ago I had a sore throat that would not leave.

After a trip to the ER and a tracheotomy preformed so I could breath again I was diagnosed with CML.

I have a check up every three months for the rest of my life.

So they can keep an eye on things.

I hear you. My neighbor just had a stroke a week ago tuesday. He was lucky his brother was there and his wife knew the signs of a stroke. ALWAYS know the signs of a stroke.

I cannot tell you the exact number, but doc said it was good.

Just another reminder, age doesn't necesarily play a part in a stroke - I had a stroke at 23 years old! Lucky enough it was minor and there are no serious lasting effects.

I'll also post the stroke symptoms again for those who are not aware...

RECOGNIZING A STROKE:

Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps.

Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Coherently) (i.e. . . . It is sunny out today)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue . if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Thanks for the remind Mike. It is the only medication I take but danged if I can remember to take it every day. Weekends are the easiest to forget as the schedule changes. I try to keep my medication next to my dogs medication. I never forget his, he's my best friend. I know that getting to the Dr. probably saved me from blowing an artery. Allan in Ne. woke me up to that little problem. It is always good when we cover each others sixes.... even ifn someone likes those mold and gold colored tractors.

Sloroll, get a pill organizer at your drug store it will hold 7 days put it on your table so you will see it when you eat. If you have forgotten the pill will still be in it.

Thats what we got Jimmy, and taking 7 pills in the morning and 4 in the evening and 2 before bed keeps me going after my stroke. That and this little skinny butted white girl. Harley
