Ok here is the deal.
706 Gas. I get spark. It gets gas and it drips out the bottom of the carb sort of like it is flooded. Plugs are way dry though. I give it a shot of ether and she fires. but wont run past the ether.
That little cylinoid thing clicks as it should when turning the key.
Whats going on here???? Why wont it run?

Careful with ether on a gas engine. You'll blow an intake manifold gasket, then it will pull in cold air & run rotten-and only with choke. Try on your 7 o crank it over with throttle off and about half choke. If it starts quick & runs a few seconds, then just ease a tiny bit of throttle...

Sounds like cyl.walls are dry,not able to suck fuel. Squirt a few drops of oil in each cyl. Maybe bad maniflod gaskets.

I only use my 706 to feed hay in the winter so it sits all summer in the shed. Well last fall I went to fire it up to run it in the shop to change oil. It would not start, had spark and gas dripping but the plugs were dry. Pulled my hair on that one all afternoon, just couldn't figure it out. Finally it started and ran perfect and gave no trouble for the few hours I used it. When I pulled it apart to fix the knock I found the air inlet above the radiater 3/4 plugged by a mud dubber nest. Little devils had completelly plugged it with mud and after I cranked it a couple hours a peice had sucked in to the aircleaner and it had air and fired up.

The carb jets are probably plugged, take it and have it cleaned, what happened wih the 300 is that enough gas would seep through fill the bowl up so it would run for a little bit at idle but when I went to throw the power to it, it died. How's yer 300 coming, mine's all tucked in at the farm waiting to run the elevator when we start ear pickin. My two cents.

I had the same problem with my SM. Plugs were dry with a hint of gas smell, gas dripping from the carb, spark, but no fire. I drained the carb on it and the 400, and wouldn't ya know, with a little fresh gas they fired right up. First time in a long time I've seen gas go bad over the winter, maybe there's some truth to people saying they were draining off the bottoms of the storage tanks last year?

Kelly: You don't check in with us often enough anymore. 706 is rebelling. I'm sure it must be that, however KB probably has a better idea.

Kelly, that little solenoid is the fuel shut-off, and it should click when the key is turned on. My guess is that somthing is wrong inside your carb. Take it apart and check it out.
