What type and what size socket do I need to remove the nut on the end of the crankshaft pulley and the flywheel nut? Or are there any other ways to get them off other than a chisel and a hammer?

I ordered a 3-1/2" socket for the flywheel nut. I have no idea what size the pulley nut is and deep reach sockets that big don"t seem to be very common or cheap. It seems to be about 2-1/8" but not exactly. It is hard to measure in there. What size is it?

I had to run out to the shop so I measured one and it looks like 2 3/16 to me but I don't have a factory wrench that size to check it against.

Is the pulley nut left-hand or right-hand thread? Will a deep reach 2-3/16" socket work?

NAPA has large 3/4 inch drive sockets. I recently bought a 3 1/2 inch socket that works great on w-30 and 10-20 wheel nuts.

I used a 3/4 inch breaker arm with a 4-foot piece of pipe and stood on the end of the 4-foot pipe to get the nut loose. No damage to the socket!

I welded up a socket out of flat stock...cause, once off, I need to put it back on without tearing it up.

I failed to mention...the reason for the caution...I bought the nut that holds the flywheel on a JD-B last month...Just a little old thing...$16.75

You can weld up sockets out of flat stock but yeah, I use a hammer and chisel. And I seldom find nuts that have not been removed that way before.
