I just painted my early H with Duponts Imron #96766 red. To me, the shade is off. It just doesnt seem that bright of a red, or as bright as I think it should be anyway. Was the original farmall Red very bright?

Until mid 1949 or so, the color was IH 50, which crosses to DuPont 7410/PPG 70019. What you have is IH 2150 which crosses to DuPont 96766/PPG 71310, there are Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour/NAPA numbers for both. 2150 was not used until 1961. There were actually 3 shades of red before 2150: 50 (1936-1949), 1102b (1949-1958), and 201 (1958-1961). I use 2150, the differences are relatively minor, I have not seen them all. In my opinion the color is up to you, not the correct police, and there is nothing that is really "correct" any more. 7410/70019, 96766/71310 are only someones estimation of the original colors anyway, as tractor manufacturers did not send exact codes/formulas to the aftermarket paint suppliers as auto makers do. I don't particularly like PPG 71310, so I have my dealer change the toners until I get a shade I like. It is all a matter of opinion. And, I don't think Case-IH 2150 is an official color either, because the manufacturers have changed over the years. Enough baloney.

When I bought the paint from the paint store, I told the guy behind the counter that I wanted Dupont 7410. For whatever reason, they gave me the 96766 instead... Not sure why maybe a mixup when he translated into an Imron #. I didnt notice till I started double checking things after I had the first coat on. I also noticed that the 96766 is also "American LaFrance red"...

The codes on most, likely all paint lines of both PPG and DuPont are the same, that is they do not change when going from enamel to urethane, etc. The acrylic lacquer code of DuPont is different, you don't want to use lacquer on a tractor anyway. As to the firetruck color, PPG 71310 crosses back to IH 2150, it says so on the label. PPG 70019 crosses to a Chrysler color. I really doubt if the original IH 50 was the same as a later chrysler color, and I doubt if the 2150 of today is the same as it was in 1961. Paint colors are sort of a crap shoot, and I no longer get overly excited about them, just have DuPont or PPG show you the sheet with the toners on it, and change the ratio to suit -- that will usually be only two of the toners from what little I know about it. Not cheap, you will probably have to buy a pint of paint each time. There is also no guarantee that you will get the exact color twice in a row -- it depends on whether they are consistent in keeping their toners mixed.

Here's a picture of the Super W6TA that was restored and painted by Oscar Jutte using Martin Senour's Cross Fire paint. Hal

Here's a Troy Bilt tiller that I painted with PPG's Omni single stage urethane. The paint code was 71310 and this was the paint chip for IH. I don't think it has the orange tint. Hal
PS: I have a picture of a Super W6TA that painted with Martin Senours Cross Fire paint and it doesn't have a orange tint.

Not very bright, it just seemed bright next to the old gray Farmall. Carry on.
Have you seen my bright blue barn? My landlord bought the tin for me and also bought the same tin, sight-unseen, for his barn. When he saw the tin "heavenly blue" he would not use it but bought another batch of white. I used the extra blue to build another shed. You get used to it.
