I'm helping my son restore a Super MTA.We need to know if the Super MTA decal on the hood is right. It is the round typ( like a Super M) instead of round type with the "Torque Amplifier" wording added to a wing on it.Did they come with both types? Also on the belt pulley gearbox under the gas tank, is the engagement lever on the right side (seated on the tractor) or the left. I thought the engagement rod was under the starter rod on the left side. Could have somebody installed the lever in the tractor wrong, or is it the wrong gearbox? Thanks in advance. Jerry

Steven,

My SMTA-LPG has the belt pully atatchment and the lever is indeed on the left as stated earlier by the other fellow...it also shows it there in the original owners manual as well as the parts manual.

And to the other fellow...The 54 version of the M was SMTA. There was nothing less than that. You are also correct about the credit for TA delete. There was also an otion of no IPTO. So the circular decal is for a TA delete only. All others should have the winged one. DREW

Belt pulley gear box lever is to the left and operating rod went through extra hole in bracket that choke and starter rod go through. M and early SM gear boxes with lever to right found there way to a lot of later tractors. Going to let others argue about the decals.

If your Super MTA came with the Torque Amplifier, then the decals should have "Super M-TA" in the circle with the "Torque Amplifier" wings on them.

And for those that are wondering, yes - you could have a SMTA without the "torque amplifier" wings on the decal. The TA was an option. If you want to argue, pick up Guy Fay's book "Letter Series Farmall Originality Guide"

Dunno about your question on the belt pulley - never seen a SMTA with one on it yet in person.

All, I Looked @ a S-MTA-LP today! It is obivious that sometime in its past it has undergone a new paint job. Up on the Hood was the regular Winged S-MTA decal in it's usual fashion, and place. The strange thing was that it sported a regular, Non-Winged, circle style S-MTA Decal in the center of each side of the LP tank. Usually there isn't one there I think this other decal was there and the painter thought he would use it.
My point here is this.....I belive the Non-Winged decal was the one used for the S-MTA,,,,TA Delete tractors. Again there is So little info out there we Do not know.....Unless some one has an ol S-MTA Deleted TA traactor in their stable..... Am I right or wrong here????? ?????
Later,
John A.

Thanks for the clarification. The books I have read always say the TA was "optional."

Good to learn from someone with an original price list!
