MY 51 H REAR AXLES LEAK AND I SEE IN THE PARTS MANUAL THAT THERE ARE TWO SEALS ON EACH SIDE.ONE AT THE BULL GEAR AND ONE AT THE OUTER END.DO BOTH NEED TO BE CHANGED TO SOLVE PROBLEM AND IF SO HOW DIFFICULT IS THE SEAL BY THE BULL GEAR.I AM GOING TO PULL COVER AND CLEAN THE TRANSMISSION ANY WAY.IS THERE A GOOD SOURCE TO PURCHASE ALL OF THE SEALS FOR THIS AS A PACKAGE I NEED THE OTHER SEALS FOR THE TRANS,PUMP,BOLSTER.THEY SEEM TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE SEPERATELY.

If the grease doesn't work I would replace all of them. Case-IH seals are overpriced, and are made by either Chicago Rawhide or National, identical to the ones you can get 30-50% cheaper from a bearing place. They will be sold separately anyway. IH numbers can be crossed to the ones the bearing place has. My preference is to replace all of them and get it over with for the next 20-30 years or so.

One thing to try before you get crazy with replacing seals, is to hit the grease zerks at the end of the axle housing with a couple of shots. My H leaked at the axle seals when I first got it, but after two pumps from the Lubrimatic...it hasn't leaked in a year. Just food for thought.

I would get the seals OEM from the Case IH guys if you can. You know things are going to fit when you get it from the Red Guys. I don't think they have all the seals in a package, but might be more willing to give ya a break if you buy them all though them.

Good luck with it!

Billy

A dealer giving a price break? Not around here =)
I did get a free float bowl gasket for my 300u when I bought a loader bucket from a tractor salvage yard/parts store.
