I've got a bit of a project that I'm trying to make work and I need to run an alternator off my Super A. This isn't going to be on the tractor all the time so I'm going to power it off the rear end. Does anyone know what rpm the PTO shaft turns at and what rpm the Belt pulley shaft turn for a given engine RPM? Also where can I buy (alternatively suggestions for building) a v-belt pulley that would mount onto either of these splined shafts. I think I'm looking to transmit round about 5hp. Many thanks, tractorsam

This is how I belted up the aux. 5KW generator on a "Fast Hitch" Farmall Cub. It works great, running engine at about 1600rpm to develop rated voltage.

Sam: If you go to any bearing, pulley, etc. shop they can supply you with a taper sheive pulley for either pto or the pulley shaft. I had one of these mounted on pulley shaft before I switched my 130 to 12 volt. I had the alternator and battery mounted on platform directly under seat. I used this many years for operation 12 motors on an attachment I had for tractor.

The man that had the Farmall dealership here had a sale a month ago and I saw one of those V pulleys there that I think would fit on a Super A. I was at the sale late so I dont think he sold it. If your interested Ill check it out or get his number for you where you can call him. I know he also had a regular pulley for a Super A and I asked him what he wanted for it, it was $25.00. I didnt buy it tho, kind of wish I had.

Email me if your interested.

PTO 540, belt pulley 1157, at 1400 engine rpm. I think--they may be rated at max idle rpm, I don't have that figure handy.

I think the PTO RPMS is 540. At my local T.S.C. store you can buy a hub that is slpined to match the PTO shaft. then you can get a sproket or pulley and weld it on. Bill

you wont be the first to do it i promise. i have seen a couple done that way saw a "i think a f20" with a harley motor on it alternator was run off the belt pulley i guess the vpulley on the alternator made the belt run straight on the belt pulley without alteration. as far as i'm concerned it was a waste of good old iron .

Don't judge if you don't know the whole story...

What if the engine in that F-20 had a destroyed block and head? Would it be better to just melt down the rest of the tractor instead of installing a Harley engine?

Back on topic: The hydraulic pump on my A is run from the belt pulley with a V-belt and works fine. Probably will transmit the 5 hp you're looking for...

Thanks all, I"ll give it a whirl just driving off the belt pulley and if that doesn"t work then I"ll get a pulley to fit. I really need to find a smaller pulley for the alternator anyway, or else I"ll have to run it through another shaft to pick up a bit more speed. Thanks, tractorsam
