I've got a completly restored Farmall B. Given the amount of money I have in it, I can't really afford for it to be just a trailer queen! It needs to earn it's keep a bit. Would this make a good tractor to hang a finish belly mower under? Part of this equation is I'm relocating with my job and trying to buy a house/acreage in the country. What's the best mower to hang under this tractor? Woods L59?

Don't buy too many acres because a guy I mow for lets me use his cub with a woods 59 and it takes 9 hours if you mow it every week.

I have a B with a Woods L59 belly mower and both rear wheels are behind the deck....and it is not a BN (B-Narrow)..... ...do I have you B fans curiosity wheel spinning now ! !

A local previous owner removed the left hand axle & axle houseing and replaced the long axle with a short axle from an "A". So now the left fender and tire are right up next to the transmission. Which makes for a slick little tight turning mowing rig as it has rear turf tires too.

You cannot beat a Woods belly mower for simplicity and durability. It is heavy enough to mow 2 ft tall weeds, pasture etc, and it will groom my front lawn as good as my neighbors $10K Deere.

Could the guy that put hydraulics on his B tell me how he did it?

i have a woods 59 on my b. the tractor handles it no problem. the mower on mine sits to the right to cover the right wheel when mowing. i have a pto driven hydraukic pump on that tractor so i made a cylinder to raise and lower the mower. you need the belt drive pulley attachment on the back to run the woods mower. you may need to add a little weight to the front of the tractor, mine has a habit of lifting the front end off the ground if your a little to quick on releasing the clutch.

An L59 was plenty big for my B. It may handle the 72 if you keep everything mowed down real good all the time.

Only issue I can see with the L59 is that it won't cover the rear wheels, and you'll be driving one wheel on unmowed grass all the time. You can get away with that on some lawns I guess, if your lawn is on nice well-drained ground, but if it's wet, then you've got a tractor-tread shaped streak left over on every pass.

The cost of a new mower is going to put you in a coma when you hear it, so be prepared when you go down to the local Woods dealer. Woods makes a good deck, so the used ones hold up well, but then you've got to find the lift and mounting brackets for the B. These are rare, unless you buy them new as parts from your local Woods dealer. You also need the right-angle gearbox on the back for the belt pulley because that's what the mower drives off of.

If you mow clockwise around your yard the left wheel is always on mowed ground. Since they are LH discharge that makes the most sense anyway.

I have an L306 (72") on a BN and it handles it just fine in 2nd gear, but I mow every 2-3 weeks. If you left it go longer, you'd have to use 1st gear.

The belley mower works well on a B. But you need to relocate and then see if the property would be suitable for the mower ex trees,shrubs,hills and other things. The SIX FT is a great choice for the B.

I see quite a few with mowers under them. I owuld think for lawn mowing a 6 foot mower would work.the only problem I see ia the wide rear wheel spacing, won't get into as tight of space as say an A, etc.
