I am putting a new clutch and throw out bearing in the A. What's the best way to remove the pilot bushing? Probably should replace it while I in there, huh? Thanks, Tom

The grease method does work most of the time. If not, you can use a hacksaw blade to cut through the bushing and then use a hammer and small chisel or screwdriver to peel it out. Not elegant but it works

Another way to remove it is to use a thread tap and cut threads on the inside of it. Then screw in a bolt and pull it out. You don't need to cut very deep threads. Roger

they do make a puller for pilot bearings and bushings. they have the jaws reversed, you can probably get one from napa or maybe rent one. it is called, no surprise....a pilot bearing puller. they also work well for pulling the bushings out of i-h starters for replacemet

I've had good luck with filling the hole with grease then, using a piece of round stock that fits the bushing VERY snug, hitting the round stock with a stout hammer and let the grease act as a sort of hydraulic jack. The round stock has to fit pretty close and this can be messy, but it does work. Good luck- those things can make a preacher swear.

Regards-
Craig

I've always had luck with the grease and bolt. But as you say size needs to be close.

Try running a tap in it.

Some can be a pain to remove some not to bad. What I have used in the past was a sldie hammer with an L type tip on it. You then just hook the bearing and work your way around it and hammer it out
