I am looking at a MD 10 20 and there is a strong gas smell in the engine oil and it is over full. What could be cause of this? The kerosene tank is being used as primary fuel with gas, small gas tank is plugged off, manifold baffles are both turned to gasoline. THANKS

you can certainly get an oilpan full of gas if the tank is full enough and the float valve dosen't seat well. And you leave the fuel valve on.. I had that happen to me right after I bought my M. I filled the tank full at the gas station on the way home with it. Then unloaded off the trailer and didn't shut off the fuel. 2 days later I went to play with my new toy and when I checked the dipstick it was way over full and stunk of gasoline.. Checked the fuel tank and it was down about 1.5 - 2 gallons..I shutoff the gas . changed the oil and got a carb rebuild kit.. I still shut it off even if I just go in for lunch.. Tallperson

I would agree with Old on gas gravity flowing into the engine and could end up in the oil pan.
I would change the oil and make sure the the shutoff valve is closed when tractor isn't being used. We had a 10-20 and I learned when I was kid to shutoff that gas. Hal

Can't say for sure on that tractor but if it has a fuel pump it may have a bad pump. Or some one left the gas turned on and gas will flow up hill into what ever cylinder has an open intake valve then into the oil pan. I've seen many a tractor that didn't have the gas turned off and the oil be over full and its a gallion or 2 of gas. Its sort of funny how gas can and does flow up hill that way but it does.

If the oil pan is over full its just that someone overfilled it or its water. You can crack the drain plug and see if water comes out first before oil. The gas smell is most likely attributed to the last time it was run it was getting way too much fuel but even then it would be almost impossible to increase the volume in the oil pan enough to notice.Unless someone tried to pull start it for a couple hours on full choke.
