I decided to start sandblasting the bellhousing and transmission on my 100 today and discovered that there really are numbers on the little tag riveted to the bellhousing! HA! :)

I didn't hit it with the sand but the overspray did help clean allot of the crud off the tag. It's faintly stamped like this:

2064 J
1575

Now I don't know wich one os the serial number or what the J is???? The markings on the tag are gone so it's just a sliver tag with these two numbers. Guess I'll have to get a repro and restamp it or something? Maybe not since it's not a big deal as long as I know what they are.

I don't know the 100's really well but I think you'll find the top number is your serial No. and the 'J' indicates a Rockford clutch. Have a hunt under serial No.s on the left for the year, I imagine it's a 55 with a low number like that. The lower number is max no load RPM. Hope this helps, tractorsam

Well I checked and it doesn't cover any letter codes?????

What's a Rockford clutch? Some kind of special clutch?

When your tractor was built I think there was an option on the clutch. It was either an Atwood(I think) or a Rockford. Nowadays I think you'd be hard pressed to find parts for the Atwood or even a tractor that still had one. I don't believe they were ever as good as the Rockfords. Hope this helps, tractorsam

You were close, It was an Auburn clutch that had no J in the #. the J does mean Rockford. (unless you find NOS, you will buy a Rockford replacement. JimN

J means Rockford, that is what you have. It was a different supplier, and considered heavier duty. Not much different though in terms of wear or power to connect the engine. It makes no difference as they (replacements) are all Rockford type now. JimN
