I think I have this straight but wanted to double check because the Operators book doesnt make it clear to me.

Behind the left brake yoke is a check plug to check the level of the gear and PTO oil, right?

On top of the geer box is the big filler plug with the 1/2 inch fitting.

On top of the PTO is also the same type fitting as the gear housing.

Below the PTO is the drain for the PTO. I guess it also drains the gear box?

When filling use 5 1/2 quarts of 90 weight.

But why is there two places to fill and which one do I use? the hole on the gear box or the hole on the PTO or does it matter?

The gunk that cmae out was sure brown and thick. Can you put some diesel in there first to flush it out?

If you go on a bit of a hunt there is another drain plug on the bottom of the gear box. Just been and looked and it's on the RHS in the bottom corner between where the axle and the PTO unit bolt on. Hope this helps, tractorsam

Yep, thats the drain plug I was refering too in the other post. Thats where all the gunk came out.

I put the plug back in and added about a quart of diesel. Letting it sit for a while now. Ill drain it then add the gear oil.

On questions 1-5 the answer is yes.

Put about 1/2 quart into the PTO fill, put the rest into the fill on top of the transmission.

The PTO drain only drains the oil from the PTO. The oil gets mixed during use, putting a little oil into the PTO just makes sure that those gears don't run without oil until it gets up there from the transmission.

Some folks do run some diesel fuel in the transmission to clean it out. I haven't tried it myself.

Diesel is just about the best crankcase/gearbox cleaner you can get.

Straight diesel for old dirty gearboxes, 50/50 as a preclean during regular intervals.
