I need to move a 1066 for my Dad. Hydro is weak. Need to get it fixed. 18.4X38 tires but not loaded. No wheel weights. Has a cab. Does any one have a guess as to what it weighs? Thanks Jerry

Thanks everyone for the help. I guess the safe thing would be for my Dad to see if the ole girl can make it the 4 miles to the local Coop elevator and run her across the scales to find out for sure. Then, hope she has enough "go" left in her to make the 4 miles back home again. :)

Thanks
J

JPatton: I think I'd get a second opinion on that weight. My 1066 was gear drive, ROPS cab, air and duals, and on this particular ocasion if I remember correctly 6 97# front end weights. My memory is a bit rusty, actually I'd sooner forget, but I think it came in under 11,000#.

This was a fiasco at highway scales on a holliday weekend with 3 tractors on 2 trucks. He made us unload and reload 3 times. I'm certain when we arrived the truck with lone 656 and able to legally haul 10,000# was legal. I knew I was overweight with 1066 and Deere 540A forestry skidder, We left there with 1066 on small truck and 656 and Deere on the trailer. In my opinion when we left there we were both over weight. I think his Thanksgiving work schedule had him in a bad mood. We were there 3 hours, should have had an official weight for each tractor and each truck. After all that weighing I had the 656 with cab pegged at just under 7,000# and the other two just under 11,000# each. I'm thinking he officially had up to 10% tolerance to play with. Both of us 10% over was better in his eyes than one truck legal and one 20% over. I know we could have put either 1066 or Deere on small truck and satisfied him. At least he didn't want money.

Someone must have shipping weights on these, I know some of the heavy chassis 06, 56 and 66 series tractors came in under 10,000# without cabs.

No fluid in tires with a cab it will go right around 12.000 up to maybe 13.200 depends on what in cab and fuel tank.I haul them on a 15000 gvw trailor.

What makes the hydro sluggish? in reply to NO tools, 11-06-2006 22:09:44
NO tools - Thanks for that info. I think that will be too much for my 14000 pound trailer. Any ideas what might be wrong with the hydro? I know it is difficult to diagnose here but it was working last summer OK. Now it won't hardly go after it warms up. To my knowledge, the oil and filter have not been changed in quite some time. Maybe I will try that first. What fluid should I use?

Thanks

J

Don't waste your time or money changing the fluid. It's never the fluid, and most likely isn't the filter given that the tractor moves when the oil is cold. Cold oil is harder to pump through a dirty filter than hot.

Allen in NE is probably the closest thing we have to a hydro expert here, IMHO. IIRC he's the one that spent a bunch of time learning, troubleshooting, and changing out parts in his hydro, and successfully got it working again. His foray into hydrostatic transmissions is documented way back in this forum. Forgive me if I'm thinking of someone else Allen or if I misspelled your name.

Hi Nat,

Well, IMHO, he really should change out that oil and filters anyways. :>)

JPatton:

After you service the tractor changing BOTH filters, take it out and get it good and hot. See if the problem still exits and if by chance it does, is it occuring in both forward and in reverse?

If it still does it and if it is happening in both directions, take off the two control lines coming down on the left side of the transmission and cap the fittings off at the transmission. They take a (I think) #7 A/C cap.

Try it again and see if if the problem is still there.

Be careful, get it out in an area where there is plenty of maneauvering room, because with those lines unhooked, you loose all hydraulic control of the transmission. You are operating it manually with no hydraulic buffer, kinda like shifting an automatic car with the shift lever only. It's gonna be a "bang-bang" deal.

This will tell us if the problem is "upstairs in the control section or downstairs in the "pull portion" of the transmission.

Should have added:

You also loose your "clutch" and the only way to stop the tractor is to hit that "neutral gate" on the shift control.

Please be careful!

Allan In NE

Thanks for the help. I am currently 400 miles away from the tractor now, so It will probably be the Holidays before I get back to it. I will try to do as you suggested and post the results.

Thenks
