value of Farmall MD?

I was just wondering if I could get a ballpark figure as to what a Farmall MD would be worth. I have spotted one here in southeast Nebraska. I spoke with the owner and he said it would take $1000 or more to buy it. He said it did run but missed (may be a cracked head), has been sitting several years and is probably stuck. Tractor appears to be complete and has good straight sheetmetal.

Jim and Ron you gave some answers that were just what I am looking for. Found a Farmall MD and was told doesnt run that I am going to look at this morning. He wants $800.

What also hits me is the comment about them not being made anymore, which means they are becoming rarer. If the engine does turn on this and the metal looks good what would do you think the major concern with the diesel engine and why it would not turn and if not running, your ball park thoughts on the reason for that? (YEs, Im sure there are many). Ill repost after I look at it this morning and talk with the seller.

1000 is reasonable as the head can be fixed using the place in NEVADA,IOWA. It would part out for more than that if you want one and sheetmetal and stuff is good well worth it as more an more demand for them. THEY AINT MAKIN"EM no more.

One half that if the engine is free and turns without sticking or making serious clunking internally. One quarter of that if not turning. They are good tractors, but your investment should be in repair parts not initial purchase. You are rescuing it. The owner caused the drop in value by not repairing it when it was running! There are others. JimN

Usually, for a tractor with a stuck engine or at least one with unknown mechanicals that doesn't run(could have bad/stuck engine, bad trans, clutch, rearend, etc etc), unless it has something with visible value(like new tires, rare options, etc), a fair price is right about what it's worth for scrap iron.

For an MD I'd be pretty wary about paying too much initially, since the cost of engine parts are MUCH higher than a gasser.

If it doesn't run but isn't stuck, and has decent tires, I'd probably offer $500 tops, and if he sticks with his $1000 price, I'd just smile and walk away.
