Is it possible to run the lift-all pump on a Farmall MD to operate a two way cylinder. Can I run my pressure line to a valve bank to lift/lower my quack drag. Also in the future it may be used to operate a loader up and down. How long can I run the lift-all pump with out doing any serious damage to it. I have not had a pump in it for several years and had to purchase a new one as mine was broken when I removed the original.

As others said, no problem with plumbing the lift all to operate with a two way cylinder. The lift all pump runs all the time the clutch is engaged anyway. When you plumb for an external control valve, you just run from one of the supplies on the lift all to the remote control valve and put the return from the control valve back to the lift all reservoir. You can either put the return back to the drain on the reservoir, or to the fill pipe. The optional valve that was made for the M/MD was mounted to the fill pipe and the return went into the fill pipe. When you want to use the remote valve, you just lock the lift all control rod in the lift position and then fluid circulates through the control valve and back to the reservoir, or to the cylinder when you activate the control valve. Make sure the return from the control valve to the reservoir is not restricted in any way.

As Gene indicates it is cool. I ran my return line on an MD back to a pipe T and close nipple installed in the bottom drain plug hole to keep my cap and upper resivoir dip stick operational. It worked well. JimN

Gene's got it covered, but to make sure you get the part about your question on how long you can run the pump - the pump runs all the time anyway. When you add the valves and plumbing Gene describes all you've done is change the route the oil takes from the pump back to the reservior.
Good luck, Wm

yes as i-h made an assy that went on top of the stand-pipe and with the control lever back and locked you had two-way. Now you can add a two-way control say on the lite bar then run the hy line out the elbow on the right side thru the two-way valve and back to the stand-pipe and with lever pulled back and locked you will have two-way. To run single hy for a loader just un-hook the line that runs to the two-way valve and run the line to the loader cycls. I would put a kwick coulper on the line going to the two-way valve that way when you wanted to use the loader would be easy to hook up.
