There seems to be no set screws or any other way to make sure the pulley on the front of the crankshaft stays in place. Any kind of special procedure such as application of a chemical to hold it where it should be? Service manual fails to say anything about it. I am slowly rebuilding this engine and will need to install that pulley before long.

Thanks, Bob

The way I do it---
1. Make sure the surfaces are clean and smooth.
2. You should find a threaded hole in the end of the crankshaft. Utilitze this hole,a piece of allthread, washers and a nut to pull the pulley onto the crackshaft.
3. I warm the pulley in the oven. Warm, but not too hot to handle.
4. Line it up and pull it on.

The close fit is all that holds it on.

The end of the crankshaft is on a taper with no keyway.Once you drive that pulley on there and it goes on as far as it can, trust me,its not going to come off.You were lucky to get it off that easily.

The crankshaft is not tapered and does have a keyway. Best way to reinstall is by pressing on with a hy jack you will have to make a bracket to hold the jack. If you use heat be careful or too much heat will ruin the new seal. Check the journal where the seal goes if it is grooved you will need a speedy sleeve or the new seal will leak.I have done around a dozen in the last few years. Some have a set screw and some dont bu it any case it has to fit tight.

Nope, not tapered, and yes there is a keyway.

I've drilled into the pulley and threaded a hole and put a setscrew in them already when they don't seem tight enough.
