Did M&W make a 9 speed for the Super M? If so, was the 2nd through 4th gear speed (on the low side)the same as the original Super M? Thanks.

Yes they made it and No, M&W SM fourth speed gears are slower than IH SM fourth. If I remember correct one tooth bigger on 4&5 slider and one tooth smaller on fourth drive gear, 1 through 3 the same. Have numbers here somewhere I could double check. Had 2 at one time but like the regular M gear spread better with 9 speed. Had a SM hiesler 9 speed but was never inside it to check gear counts.

My memory was off, found my notes, on standard SM the 4th drive gear is 33 and driven 30 in a M&W they are reversed. 30 drive and 33 driven. Think M&W used the same 4 and 5 sliding gear in some W6 9 speeds.

Yes, M&W made 9 speed conversions for SM but not SMTA.

The original speeds are retained on the low side. The countershaft is speeded up and 1st thru 4th are something like 100% quicker in high range.

I know of 3 manufactures that made 9 speeds, Heisler, M&W, Behlen. Don't think any of them made one for the supers as they had a fast 4th. They were real common in our area in M's Three of my M's have them, I have looked for years for one for an H, now in the last 2 months I have bought two of them.
