I've seen two types of air cleaners for H's. One is the type I have with a little dome on it, no jar. The other has a little jar on it. Well, I have the picutre of my Grandfather's M and he has a jar. I have the one without the jar on my H. So, what's the difference between the two? Is one better than the other? The only reason I would want the jar is to match my grandfather's tractor.

I use oil in reply to Mike CA, 11-19-2006 19:34:29
I use some used motor oil in my jar. Just pour some in the top and swirl it around. Later, you can wipe out the jar and all the accumulated dust with a paper towel.

The air cleaner intakes with the jar were a centrifugal type precleaner. The air swirled around in the chamber and the dust was deposited in the jar. The other ones just screened out the big stuff from coming into the oil bath air cleaner. Roger

The glass ones are to hold the little green and yellow tractors that get inhaled as you go past them. :)

The air cleaners are the same that jar assy is called precleaner and was for extreme dusty conditions. They were made for A,B,C,H,and M. I used to put about 2in water in the M when the mounted picker was on and you would be surprised how dirty it got in one day.

From what I unbderstand it was an option on a good number of tractors/brands. And yes they did a better job of filtering the air and where made for dusty conditions. So far none of the tractors I own has ever come with one, sure wish I had one for one of my tractors but most people would like what I would do with it if I had one

Hi, Mike:
The one with the jar is called a Donaldson Pre-cleaner. Supposedly, it was the better of the two. But, for what we do with our hobby tractors today, what is the difference?
I see Donaldson's for sale on ebay from time to time.
