I know it's a tad early, but I just can't wait. I want to be the first to wish ALL my fellow YTers and their families a Happy, Happy Thanksgiving. (And that goes to you in Canada, New Zealand and elsewhere as well.)

And what are your plans? My wife, Susie, and I will have our Aunt Betty over, which is our tradition. Since she's moving to Texas, it could be the last time she spends Thanksgiving with us. So it'll be a small gathering, along with the ever-begging-for-scraps Emma, the wonder German Shorthair, and equally needy Hannah the cat. Turkey, stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, red cabbage, rolls, green/black olives, and pumpkin/apple pie.

And what are the first THREE things that come to your mind that you're most thankful for. For me, I say my family, my friends, my health.

Happy Thanksgiving. David

David: Happy Thanksgiving, to you and all the rest of the folks south of the border. As you know we celebrated our Thanksgiving back the second weekend of Oct. Canadians have always had to get that done before it was too cold to say thanks. My grandfather had a sister living in MA. He always told her if we waited as long as Americans, harvest would be long since over and we'd forget what we were thankful for.

Did yea try any Hagis when you were in Scotland lad. Ah, but if yea tried the Hagis, you'd have even more to be thankful for on Thankgiving. You guys just have party enough, we'll here ye clear across the lakes.

Gentleman, gentleman...why did we have to go down the road of the haggis? While I will admit, it definitely tastes pretty darn good...you still have to get over the fact of it's ingredients.

I guess that argument doesn't hold much weight down here though...you know, coming form people that eat pork left-overs stuffed into intestines. Funny how all the brat and sausage companies are down here in Wisconsin!

Have a great holiday gentleman!

Billy

Billy...ahhh, the haggis. It just kills me how many people turn up their noses at haggis, but then salivate at the thought of a finely grilled brat, a Chicago-style hot dog or a bag of pork rinds. And how about a fried egg? Ever think of that? There's a great line about that in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes."

Here's a Scottish thing that does drive Susie nuts. When you buy a whole fryer chicken in one of their supermarkets, it still has the feet on. That's a lovely sight. Susie wouldn't even unwrap it until I had cut them off.

I say again, Happy Thanksgiving!

Billy: I figured we could count you in on the haggis, David told me what a good Scotsman you are.

Aye, you can count me in on the haggis. It really is quite good...but I will admit, I did have to quit thinking about what was in it and just throw it down the ol' hatch!

Hugh...Aye, we enjoyed haggis several times across the sea. The traditional "haggis, tatties and neeps" is one of daughter Kristin's favorites. Also enjoyed smoked salmon and Lochaber smoked cheese from fellow-father-in-law Simon's smokehouse. And, of course, the boys and I shared a wee dram or two of the peaty stuff. Plus a pint or four. One of my fondest memories is being in the Glenuig Inn, a tiny pub about 25-feet square, with a coal fire glowing in the fireplace, wind howling like heck outside. Then I, along with my future son in law, left the pub at 3 am to walk along a waterway named the Sound of Arisaig. The stars seemed so close you could touch them, and Paul told me about Scottish ghosts and his beloved Highlands. That really was a night. Thanks for asking. David

David: Aye, as you can clearly see, I'm 4 generations out of Scotland. The one thing that did hang tough through those generations, is being tight with my pennies. The Campbells are even tighter.

David,

I plan on shooting fuzzy, brown, innocent, animals Thanksgiving morning...and then turkey with the family in the afternoon. Not too much else the rest of the day I don't believe. Trina probably has some honey-do's for me...but this honey is going to clean the shop and hang some new flourescent lights so I don't lose my way to the refrigerator during the next football game!

Thank you also for the great calender! I have a holder for it too that I was given last year for a gift! You sure as heck didn't have too...but hockey and tractors make for two good passions!

Thanks again! Wait till I find you that tobacco axe, or maybe something worse!

Say, "Hi!" to Emma for me too! She sure was a cutie when you had her out to the farm! To bad I didn't have Nash with me! They would have been buddies I'm sure!

Have a good one and a safe one Dave! And all you other boys and girls too!

Billy

Most important reminders of Thanksgiving is family and friends. It's a great time of the year to be giving to all. I wish everyone a happy and safe turkey day.

Here is a reply I made to a similar post at Ask Cowman
"I will probably just stay home. I already had my holiday, my sisters were both there and we all had dinner together with dad the first of the month. First we had been together in over 20 years."
My 3 things I'm most thankful for?
Each new day
My faith in God
The opertunity to to what I do, Ranching, selling tractor parts, and being a help and inspiration to those I come in contact with.
