Can a pto/pulley unit from an A be modifed to fit a Super A? If so, what needs to be changed?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott Goff

Yes you can make up a sleeve, the above replys are correct. Old A's had a two notch hookup and the SA has a spline hookup. I took the sleeve from a SC and cut it to the correct length and welded the spline back on for my SA. Worked fine.

Better check the sleeve that enguages the drive as they mite not be the same. You wont know until the units are apart.Dont know when the change was made but later ones used a notched coupling as the older ones used a two prong to enguage into the output shaft on the tranny.

They are the same units used on both tractors.

Early A's are different from Super A's. Later A's are the same as Super A's. The breakpoint is serial number 66671. Look for pulley drive housing 9090D (casting number).

I noticed the sliding shift tube that engages the transmission is different. On the A pto that I have, the male "spline" only has 2 driving lugs on it.

On the Super A tractor, the female "spline" in the transmission that drives the pto has about 8 driving lugs in it.

Can I change just the sliding shift tube, or are there other differences as well?

Thanks,
Scott

The tube will interchange, at least as long as you have the later A PTO. You just need to match the front end to whatever upper transmission shaft you have.
