The other nite while i was grinding feed, i noticed that my 560 diesel was not only smoking while it was warming up but while it was itling after i ground a full load. I then noticed the next morning that the oil level was high. Is it possible that diesel fuel is getting into the oil? If so, how could this happen? any help would b appreciated.

I checked the antifreeze and it looks good. Would the diesel fuel seperate from the oil, or would it mix in?

Nathan: Drain some of the crankcase content off, you should be able to smell the diesel fuel. I had the happen with a Deere, same injection pump. After working it 8 hours I noticed the smell from the seat. In that 8 hours, 7-8 qts got added to the crankcase.

It never seemed to hurt anything, it worked a good many years after that, before rebuilding engine.

after engine has been shut down over night loosen oil drain plug till it drips. antifreese sinks right through oil it will drip befor the oil. fuel in oil? pull dip stick use lighter on oil on end if the smoke smells like fuel burning pump seal most likely is leaking.

Nathan: Hydraulic fluid in a 560 can not get to the crankcase. Antifreeze can. Diesel fuel can follow the injection pump drive shaft and into the crankcase. There will be a type of seal or O ring around shaft, inside injection pump. If that seal or O ring goes it can dump a lot of diesel in crankcase in short while. Those Rossa Master pumps were noted for that but it usually happened from someone not being careful installing the pump.

Nathan It could be antifreeze and yes the injection pump can leak fuel into the engine past the pump drive shaft. But no hydraulic oil on a 460 or560.

I think it would be pretty hard for hydraulic fluid to get into the motor on a 560. They didn't have the PESCO distributor mount pump anymore, so the only path would be to fill up the clutch housing and dump in through the rear main oil seal. I'd think by that time some other things would be noticeable. Was it smoking a dark black? If a seal went in the pump it might be possible to leak fuel into the crankcase. If it was running rich, it is possible it started running past the rings, but you don't mention any running problems, so it seems unlikely it is running that rich. Maybe someone else will have more info.

first thing i would do is identify whats leaking into the crankcase. it may be antifreeze from a bad head gasket ect. could also be hydraulic fluid. i am not sure if the injector pump on the 560 could leak fuel into the engine, but i suppose its possible. if the crankcase oil is milky, i'd look at the coolant. pull the radiator cap when the tractor is cold and start it up and watch for bubbles or exhaust gases coming out. you can also pressure test the cooling system to see if it holds pressure.
