H generator question

Now this might be confusing...
On an H I have....6 volt generator, 6 volt lights, etc.

I have a 12 volt battery hooked up.
12 volt coil.

The lights are 6 volt wired in series in front, and an aftermarket rear 12v light.

My questions are...\
Generator is not working. I would like to have rewound/rebuilt.
How much will this run, roughly?
When I get this done, and re-installed, can I isolate the feed to the lights and have the generator just run the lights, and not charge the system?

I like the 12 volt battery, makes this plow tractor easier to start in the winter. 'Bout half a crank and she's fired up. A trickle charger keeps the battery topped off in the winter, and don't even have to charge it at all during the summer.

What I am really looking for is lights that don't run the battery down, as they currently do.
Thanks for your input!

If you want to keep the 6v Genny I had mine rebuilt for my 41 H this past summer it cost 90. that included the volt reg too. I have never had a problem starting my H in the winter on 6v ya might want to redo wiring for 6v only or 12v only, myself I am partial to 6v cause I haven't experienced any problems with it and it is original

Brian, I think youre makin this harder on yourself then is needed. Its not all that expensive to EITHER buy a used or rebuilt 12 volt genny and Voltage Regulator,,,,, ,,,,, or have a shop rebuild your existing 6 volt genny up to a 12 volt and get a 12 volt Voltage Regulator,,,,, ,,,,,or Ive even successfully used 6 volt gennys to charge 12 volt tractors simply by changing to a 12 volt Voltage Regulator!!! Im NOT saying thats the best or engineering correct or she charges at any high rate, ONLY that it worked.

YES you could jury rig the genny just to run lights and NOT charge the battery but thats really out in left field and doesnt provide anywhere near constant lighting and is totally impractical in my opinion. If you already have a 12 volt batetry and 12 volt coil its cheap to buy 12 volt lights so all you need is a used or rebuilt 12 volt genny and VR or have yours upgraded n rewired to 12 volts and get a 12 volt VR.

You've already got the 12 volt battery, and the 12 volt coil. Now would be a good time to purchase and install a 12 volt alternator. The alternator will be much less expensive than rebuilding the 6 volt generator. To convert the lights to 12 volt, all you need to do is swap out the bulbs. Presto, you're done. The tractor now has lights, and you can do away with the battery charger.
