I finally purchased back my Dad's 1952 Super C after being out of the family 44 years. It has been converted to 12 volt. I had been fixed up for the auction and started fine. I purchased it and then stored it. When I got to it a couple months later, I discovered a short and the battery dead. The tractor would not start when pulled. Anyone have a diagram for a 12 volt alternator, plus given me an idea what else is bad as a result of the short..points, coil, condenser?? or all three. thanks in advance. I already have a Super C with original 6 volt and may convert this one back to 6 volt but for now I just want to get it started and running.

A continuously shorted battery might not recover at all. A dead battery in an alternator equipped vehicle will not allow the alternator to become "excited" this prevents all electricity from being produced. Unless it has a magneto, it will not start. My sequence would be:
1 repair the original short circuit to prevent its return.
2 replace the battery with a known good one.
3 try to start it as before with starter.
4 repair farther with the wiring diagrams as below. Good luck, JimN

JimN, Yep, I figured the batter was gone, but I did not realize that a dead battery would not allow the engine to start with the tractor was pulled. The battery was just an irrigation engine battery the previous owner put on it to get it started and sold. The short is at the ballast resister. Previous owner put it too close to the throttle linkage and shorted out. Pretty well cobbled up wiring anyway so I need to do some reworking anyway. I just wondered if I need to be prepared to look further to points, etc. since it did not start when pulled. It had fired up pretty readily before the short, with a little smoke when running, but it is 44 years old after all. Someday I probably will convert it back to 6 volt. The other Super C is 6 volt and after I put (I believe) 0 gauge welding wiring off the battery, it does pretty well. Thanks, Larry

Larry,
Here's a link to one of "Bob M's" wiring diagrams.
