Replaced fluid and filter along with cleaning screen. Power steering was better but would still come and go at certain times. It may just be me,but it seems the steering works better at lower engine rpm. I would think it would be the other way around, the higher the pump rpm the greater the steering response. I am wondering since this is power assist instead of power steering maybe there is some sort of proportional valve in the power unit regulating flow during different steering situations. I have ordered a manual for it but hasn't arrived yet. What do you think tractor gurus? does this sound possible?

assuming that your tractor has the transmission pump rather than the front crankshaft to operate the loader, I once found that the short pipe that connects the pump to the filter was pulled to far into the filter, and only butted up to the pump thereby sucking air. My fix was to remove the pump and push the tube (short Pipe) firmly (with good Oring) into pump and carefully reinstall pump, and was good to go. If you need picture email me

Just open brainstorming here, but interesting.
If the diverter (priority) valve which controls the path of the hyd. oil to the steering/hitch/remotes, is in need of repair/reseal or replacement the symptoms might duplicate those you find. Additional flow volume may make the valve more sensitive to jerky motion. If all other hydraulic processes are powerful and smooth, I would suspect tha valve. If other problems with hyd. are present, I would suspect the pump. JimN

This tractor does not have PTO or 3point hitch, so all the hydraulic pressure goes to the steering unit.

I believe the complete Hyd system will be in place to allow the addition of remotes. This will (I believe) include a priority valve. Thus that is where I would look first.
If it is not equipped with a pump at the distributor, and has a seperate powersteering pump only, everything I have said is irrelevant. JimN

I believe you are going to need a service manual, or parts break down. There is a online parts breakdown, (search archives for on line parts diagrams). It will most likely have a diverter valve. JimN
