Hello,
I bought a trailer today and it only has one axle and I am wondering how to tell what the weight of the axle is? It is a 8 lug wheel and it is one that uses 90 weight gear lube insted of packing the bearing with grease. Any hints??
Thanks Mark

It is one of the rubber torshion axles and it isn't a old truck rearend. I am thinking about buying another axle and putting it under it. It is a very well built trailer. Thanks Mark

Does it have a "pumpkin?" In other words, is it an axle salvaged off the rear end of a pickup truck? If so, you're only looking at about 6000 pounds.

Even if it is a 10,000 axle, you may not want to put that much on a single-axle trailer if you plan on going anywhere at any speed. Single axle trailers are bouncy and unstable compared to tandems.

I"ve never seen an axle with oil bath bearings less than 10,000 lb, but I could be wrong. My 7000lb 8-lug axles use grease, and my gooseneck has 10,000lb axles with oil bearings.

I work in the Marine Field and in the last year they have come up with gear oil filled hubs down to 1000lb axle w/ 4:80x12 wheels. It is something fairly new

Most of the time with 8 lugs its 7000lbs or more but there are some that aren't that high but have 8 lugs
