When I have my Super A painted is there any special paint I need around the exhaust to keep it from chipping and cracking when engine gets hot.Have seen many photos on this site and on tv that have tractors restored was wondering how they keep paint looking great with exhaust going thru hood.

If your hood is fitted properly there will be clearence all around the hole and the muffler sets above the hole there wont be any problem. You mite need a new pipe coming out of the manufold to get good fit and clearence. Not that hard to get another one as it is standard 1 1/2 pipe you will have to use torch to get old one out. Mite have to take manifold off and then to a repair shop an let them do it.

Unless you have the pipe actually touching the metal, it probably won't be a problem, at least not on the ones I have done that have seen limited use.

Though not stock, a SS sheet metal ring made to fit around the exhaust pipe and be about 3/16" away from it with open top and bottom would buffer the hood from the heat. Spacing it so the top is about one inch above the hood, and the under side at least 1" below the hood at the lowest point. I would put small nuts on the inside three places at the top, and three at the bottom then use set screws to hold it in place against the exhaust pipe. Use silver anti-sieze compound to allow removal. JimN

Jim, hope you don't mind a little nit-picking. The copper anti-seize is recommended for use in a heat environment. Should be available where the silver paste (actually nickel) is sold.

The silver Permatex pn S133 I have on the shelf is Molybdnum disulfide based material rated from -58f to 1200 degrees f, maybe the copper is rated higher, but I have never had an issue with exhaust compoents. Thanks for the idea. JimN
