Hi , A real simple question . What's the easiest way to remove the hood by your self ? This happens to be a M farmall . If I lift on one side the other side hangs up , so over to the other side , same thing . It's a good thing my tractor is nothing but rust because if it had a nice paint job I'd be ripping what little hair out that I still have . Any tricks to it ? Thanks ...Randy

Obviously the best way is to have one person on each side! However when a helper is not available I use a couple wood blocks (2x4 scraps or similar) and a step stool or inverted 5 gal bucket

First undo all (4) hood latches. Then disengage and lift the rear of the hood far enough to slip a wood block between the top of the gas tank and the hood. Now go to the front of the tractor and do the same, inserting the 2nd block block between the top of the radiator and the hood. Finally place the step stool on the left side the tractor about in line with the exhaust stack, then stand on it, reach across and grab the hood and lift it free.

Simply reverse the above steps to replace the hood.

I put a small pulley overhead and ran a cord down to a wood rod which ran under the hood. I could pull the hood straight up and let it hang there while working on the engine.

Small stepladder, unless you are 6'6", grab in middle and lift straight up, turn the hooks sideways first.

might try getting a ladder so you can reach across and get ahold of both sides so they dont flop back down. or get a couple of rods to slide under it to hold it up. be careful and don't mess up the patena.

I like a tractor with patina finish and straight sheet metal. They look very original and yet cared for. (Guess this does not answer your hood question.)

It may be patina. I have a photographer friend that is into it big time.
