I found out that the MD does not run. I am know looking for an M or H(there is a New Years auction and every year they go cheap.) Are they easy to repair. Thanks.

H and M are simply built and parts are easy to find you can easily spend $2000 or so on one in a hurry though. It is almost always cheaper to buy one in good condition than to buy a fixer upper.

You can expect any 50+ year old piece of machinery to have some problems unless it has had recent complete top to bottom/front to back rebuild. The MDs were good in their day but engine can get very expensive to rebuild.

If (and only if) the tractor was wrecked by poor operator/owner will there be problems. I've owned an MD, and a TD20 with the gas/diesel engine. They are sweet, unique, and long lived. If it starts and runs well on gas, then switches to diesel within 2 minutes without continuous cylinder misfire (white smoke). And further, if you run it (or work it) long enough to get it completely warmed up, and it shows no excessive blowby from the crancase vent, and good oil pressure, it will be fine. Stuck valves from sitting in a fence row, cracked heads from improper shut down when hot, and poor maintanience are the problems I know of. They are economical of fuel, and start nice in cold weather. I like them. JimN
