Super MTA Governor

I am planning to pull the governor off my MTA to bring down to school to tear it apart and check it out. Are there any things I need to be weary of when puling it off, or is it just a matter of disconnecting the shaft to the carb and taking out a few bolts and pulling the governor off?

Also, Any tips on disassembling and reassembling this thing? What do I need to look out for as far as wear areas, parts that usually need replaced, etc? I have another that I bought off ebay and I would like to use it for parts if I can. The tractor seems like it should have better governor response when put under a load. I am not sure if the springs might be bad, or??? I also pull this tractor sometimes and have heard about grinding weights and putting different springs but I just want to make sure it is working at 100% before I go buying/swapping/modifying parts as I'm told that for a stock tractor the stock governor should be great.

Anyway.... Any help on how to tear it apart and what to look at would be very much appreciated.

Mike

Removing it from the tractor is pretty straight forward, no surprises although you may need to do a bit of wigglin' to get it to come free. I am not an expert on governors, but the biggest problem I have seen is that where that spring attaches, the holes get worn egg shaped, and then the spring doesn't have the tension it needs to fully pull the throttle into the wide open position. The next biggest problem area is where the pins go through the weights. Wear occurs on those pins, and then the weights can wobble around a bit. You can probably get the parts needed from Case-IH, but they no longer furnish a complete rebuild package.
You will probably find that the ebay governor is worn out in the same areas.
