Been teaching the wife to drive the H so she can use the manure spreader. This was her third lesson, and when she got ready to start going after engaging the PTO, she had it in 5th gear by mistake and killed the engine, when she went to re-start it, she said sparks came out under the starter.

I could not get it to spark starting it several times, what could have caused that? She is afraid to start it now : (

Ah, that makes more sense. One of the first things I did when I bought my H was replace the battery cables, and cleaned up all of the connections.
Guess I better pick up a new starter button, is that a NAPA kinda part or need to buy from CASEIH?

The same starter button was used on several makes and models, and not just tractors, so NAPA should have it. For sure Case-IH will have it. I picked up a new one on an auction that was labled as a Willy's Jeep replacement.

If it sparked you probably had a wire/cable loose and when she hit the button it welded its self are burned it just enough to fix the loose condition. If I where you I would check the nuts on the starter switch and you will probably find one just a little loose

You've got some loose or corroded connections. Take both cables off the button and sandpaper or wirebrush the cable ends until they are nice and bright. Do the same with the nuts.

I might add that it is also possible that the starter button itself is burnt or corroded inside.
