I changed my 41 H over to 12v because the original generator was gone,as it was on the 1950 C I did before, and the 46 M I'm about to do.I don't have a problem with 6v,but without a generator there goes most of the 6v system, time you find a generator and a voltage reg,buy a battery, its more cost effective to switch it over.Had I had the gen,I might have left it. 12V makes them start better and faster, gives you stronger lighting. Putting a Japanese alt on an American tractor is just plain wrong, and this is coming from a Canadian.I used a small Delco off an S-10,FITS PERFECTLY and neatly.Truth be known,it too was probably made in Japan, but Delco-Remy sounds much better to say than Nippondenso. On my C I used a small 12v battery that is used in those small foreign cars, fit into the stock box perfectly.
Each person has an opinion on the value one way or another of the tractorconverted to 12v.The average run of the mill H or M it really doesn't matter much, but if the tractor were a rare low build, and therefore a collectors item, then yes, keeping it 6v is the way to go. My 2 cents worth, for what its worth.
