Hi Folks, Just to update on project M, i haven't got alot done this last week, but I did get the head to my father and he's gonna grind the valves and seats and inspect and hope to not find much wrong. I also got the hone from him to crosshatch my sleeves at touch and be all ready for my rings and gasket set to come in (only God knows how long that will take with Christmas here!). Also started to soak the carburator so I can get that all cleaned up and ready along with the govenor linkage. Can any one give me an idea of what to look for when I inspect the govenor itself? Not sure how it works but I have an idea just looking at it!!! I was playing around with the hand crank the other day and found it was froze. Well then I seen where somebody has tried to use a pipe wrench on it and used alot of pressure. So also if you could give me a hint on what to look for why it could be binding up.

Thanks Derek Merry Christmas!!!

When I did my 51 M I had the same problem. Used a whole can of PB Blaster on it and forced grease in from underneath by zerks fitting and the used a 4# sledge to drive it in (wood between hammer and metal) and a crow bar to push it back out. after several ins and out it started to move easier , greased it well and works great now.

I am going to recommend that only a few things are disassembled at one time. A working tractor engine can be reduced to 10 possible nonfunctioning systems. The starting and first operation are bad enough to predict without several unknowns (been there) JimN

Derek, Thats must be a pretty standard problem on the letter series Farmalls with a working battery starter. I've had 3 Hs with the same problem. There is a sleve/ratchet in the bolster that is rusted in place. Sometimes you can soak em with penetrating oil and beat em loose. Worse case-remove the bolster & heat. There is a grease fitting on the bottom of the bolster that most guys ignored when they could just push the starter button. ken
