1950 Farmall H needs rescue

I posted this on Tractor Talk last week. I spoke to the seller and he was very interested in selling. Asking price is $250. Seller is motivated due to needing cash to fix up his Oliver. The tractor is in Fairview, WV. It is a 1950 with good mains and a belly pump that has never been hooked up. The original owner (FIL)was a union painter and applied whatever was left over to prevent rust. The radiator is off of a Chevette and the original is gone. Front tin goes with the tractor. Seller said the tractor had 10 forward gears. Tractor does not run. Ran when parked, but has been setting a while.

I am not the seller, and have no affiliation. I am interested in seeing a old Farmall get made new. I would like to restore it, but the missus said no. Write for contact information. Email is open.

Lets see, 9 speed trany,small starting tank, kerosene manifold.
I'll give ya 4500 for the starting tank if its still good..... ....

Aaron, no real way to be sure what salvage value might be. But way more than $250. Especially if it truly has a 9-speed gear set installed and functional. If you can talk your wife into it, I'll pay for the tractor if you can get it home and do the salvage work. We can split the proceeds.

In other wards, find some place to store the thing and start taking it apart. You will have a interesting experience and I suspect make a little bit of cash as well if you like this kind of adventure.

Thanks for the offer. Money is not the problem. My problem is that I am in the final stages of restoring a 1959 MF65. I have no hidden storage and all my projects can be seen from the street. I have my current project in the spare parking spot hidden under a green tarp. Anything that happens to follow me home would have to be put in my parking spot, and I would have to go to the street. There is money to be made here, but I would rather see it restored than parted out. If the 15+ emails and 5 phone calls have anything to say, I would say it is already sold. I was not expecting such a response, but I do appreciate it. I hate to see anything rust down.

Aaron, in the second pic, the serial number plate is clearly visible. Ahead of the battery a liitle ways, and behind the intake tube to the carburetor. The serial number will start with FBH.

Aaron, you might want to discuss it with your wife a little more. If you've got the tools, and a place to work, that H could be a money maker. The overdrive unit alone could be worth the $250, and those rear hub mount stamped steel wheels are just what a lot of the pullers are looking for. Might get another $250 out of the rear wheels and hubs. The carburetor is easily worth $50, the manifold another $75 to $100. Get the idea?

Dual tanks, magneto and pipe seat were available even on Super H but,tall filter was discontinued SN 121022..late 1942.

I remember the pictures from before, and I mentioned that it looked like it had the overdrive unit. Apparently I was correct. If West Virginia wasn't so far away, I'd be draggin' that one home.

Kfox, I am on the East side of Indiana, South of Richmond 15 miles, and I am thinking that it maybe a little far for me also. But I really do not know, since there are 6 Fairview WV cities, but most of them are around Charleston area, which would not be to bad, if it was one of them.

Hey Rusty, that H might have been a Picker Tractor, look at the front wheels, it appears to have the Snout Caps on the Hubs. Also, the Seat is telling me that it isn`t a 1950 model. ..... ..... ..... ...

I hadn't noticed the picker hubs, but that is what it looks like. I'm not sure when IH made the Monroe seat standard? I'm thinking maybe the seat on that tractor might have been standard equipment even in 1950?
